fresh laundry

This little guy always does something to make us smile! Today, he said "Taliana!" and they sought each other's hands out to hold. It was the cutest thing and I was very disappointed that my cameraphone was crapping out on me and I couldn't capture the moment! So, a picture from last night will have to suffice (it beats a post with just words, right??).

what's a bang-joe??

Tyler can tell you: "It's a drum connected to a piece of guitar"! Oh, yeah! He learned this when his grandpa pointed out a banjo while they were watching a bluegrass performance on tv!

training run

Mom and Christina watched Dylan while Tom and I ran the Almaden Classic 10K -- the first in a series of San Jose running events that comprise a "hat trick". We get some sort of "special" finisher's award for running this 10K, the San Jose Rock 'n' Roll Half and the Silicon Valley Half.

Since the run was good timing for our respective training programs, we decided to do it. I mean why not? And Lola wanted to visit with Dylan anyway!

So, without further ado, here are a few of the pictures of Dylan having fun at Lola's house (there were many, many more, but the flash setting was accidentally switched to "slow synchro", so a lot of them were too blurry! Too bad!)!

Dylan now says "neat" for "eat" and this is exactly what we were about to do when I took this picture with my phone earlier today!

Of course, little Dylan has little patience for sitting still in his chair, but luckily, we practically had the whole restaurant to ourselves, so we could kind of let him wander around and explore.

Yes, he is as sweet as he looks in this pic!

nana!

Dylan said "banana!" Alright, alright. I know it isn't much, but since we're his parents, we're impressed...!

Anyway, it's busy, busy, busy now that Music Together has started up again and I'm still going into the office 4 days a week. I miss those Mondays and Wednesdays of yore when I was working from home and could see him whenever I wanted to!

He definitely has Tooth #8 coming in -- it's on the bottom and will make his lowers symmetrical once more. He's also getting pickier with the eating, although, oddly enough, we have more trouble getting him to eat things like rice and pasta than we do fruits and veggies! He still loves broccoli, string beans, spinach, tomatoes...and all manner of fruit!

These days, he's more into hugging his stuffed animals (Theodore, Sylvester, Winnie the Pooh) than he's ever been, and he's also entering that tantrum stage (egads).

What else? He loves playing with his daddy! Every night, they "fall down" on the papasan cushion in our room and roll around and laugh! He also thinks it's a riot when we smell his feet and say, "p.u." and when we pretend one of his stuffed animals is having a tantrum while having its diaper changed (but, tonight, he rescued Sylvester from his diaper change; after I'd finished putting a diaper on Sylvester, he took it off, then picked up Sylvester, hugged him to his chest, and ran off!).

Oh, and he gives the best hugs ever....

Back Log: Dylan visited LA for the first time and Tom ran the inaugural Disney Half!

Thank goodness the roseola bout was relatively short! By Thursday, Dylan's rash was practically non-existent. He had his 15-month doctor's appointment, too, so we could follow-up on the urine sample results. By this time, his doc could make the retro-diagnosis of roseola.

At 21 pounds, he's still trending at 10% for weight but, at 30.5", is now back down to 35% for height.

On Friday, Heather and I took the kids to the Santa Cruz County Fair.

Here's Dylan's photo from last year's visit! He was so small!

This year, we actually missed the pig races; instead, we did a lot of animal-petting: goats, sheep, cows, donkeys, an albino boa...even an emu!

The big highlight was riding the pony! At first, Dylan was reluctant, but once they got going, he was laughing and smiling! He also enjoyed sitting in the fire truck...!

More pictures -- including an adorable sequence of photos where it looks like Dylan is proposing to Taliana -- are here.

Last Wednesday, mom and Mike came over to watch Dylan while I worked. He was recuperating from roseola, but the upside to that was he got to spend the day with family AND his rash was finally dying down (and, of course, he's immune to it from here on out!).

Prior to the roseola diagnosis, he was super duper irritable and fussy! He had a fever of 103.5 and wasn't eating or drinking much so we took him to Urgent Care on Sunday morning. At that point, they couldn't tell what it was, so he actually had to have a little urine bag taped up to him so we could collect a urine sample and rule out bladder infection!

It was definitely a tough weekend, but at least it's over and done with and he'll have one less sickness to worry about catching in his bright little future!

Poor little Dylan was feeling lethargic and not himself at all this past Friday, but we headed to lunch and the park with lola, Auntie Cindy and Jason and Tyler anyway.

With Tylenol, he endured the afternoon pretty well!

I think more teeth may be coming in, but I actually can't easily tell. Guess we'll find out soon enough!

back to the old grind

Well, we made it through the run and back home all in one piece and now it's back to business as usual. We got home around 2am and awoke early the next morning to start our Tuesday. Tom went off to work and Dylan and I went to Finger Babble, my team meeting (where Dylan was just a model participant!), and then daycare for him and then back to work for me.

It's about 25F cooler here, but it still feels hot!

We had a wonderful time visiting family and Dylan clearly had so much fun...we could barely get him to sleep!

Wish there were more photo opps like this one...

blogging from LA

It has been an incredibly HOT weekend down here in LA. When we arrived on Friday morning at 5am, it was still over 80F and Friday night was no different. How unfortunate that there is no real relief from this blasted heat even after evening rolls around!

Aside from that, so far, we've had fun visiting Grandma Sharon and Papa Willard and Uncle Michael. On Friday, Dylan had a chance to play a little bit with Rocky, too, and Tom and I actually took off without Dylan for a brief breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien. Ahh. Yummy eats.

Today, we spent the day in Anaheim just to get some quiet time. We tried a new vegan restaurant in Fullerton and went to the Disneyland Half expo for our timing chips, bib numbers, and goody bags.

Dylan is so excited to be here, he's fighting naps! At the expo, he was falling asleep on my lap, but once he realized his eyelids were drooping, he'd try dropping to the floor and he'd start running around!

We finally gave up on seeing the exhibits in peace and, once in the car, he was out like Shout (and now napping peacefully in our wonderful air-conditioned room).

On so little training, this half will be a tough run...toss in the heat and it's bound to be ugh. Oh, and did I mention we need to be in our corrals at about 4:30am???

Back Log: At this time last year, Dylan was only 15 weeks old, he didn't have any teeth yet and we were wondering if he was teething. Little did we know that it would take several more weeks for those first two choppers to break through those gums (read post)!
