lunch with grandpa and lola - 07/26/06

Mom was jonesing for a visit, so she and Mike came over to escape the San Jose heat and have lunch at Sri. Dylan was pretty darn jolly. He was all smiles and gurgles for mom, which of course made her happy!

As you can see, Dylan is plumping up pretty nicely! His onesies are getting a little snug -- Tom now says he looks like a little German gymnast! "...and Dylan gets a 10 for playmat time!!"

Today's stats and bath night

07/22/06 - bath time!
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Today we got his new stats from the doctor -- he's a whopping 11 pounds, 23 inches tall, and his head circumference is something like 15 1/8.

At 11 pounds, Dylan is still only in the 25th percentile by weight (he's at the 50th percentile by height).

That means, there are some ladies out there who are delivering some BIG babies! I have to say, I'm glad Dylan wasn't one of them (for my own sake...!!!).

So, he also got his vaccinations today which, poor thing, are making him a little unhappy. He's mostly sleeping it off, but I can tell he's bothered when he wakes up crying as if he's in pain.

We are planning on giving him a little bath later on tonight to help soothe his muscles (as recommended by the doctor).

Wharf to Wharf 2006

at Wharf to Wharf 2006 - 07/23
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Today, Tom and I walked the 6 mile Wharf to Wharf event (from Santa Cruz to Capitola) with Dylan riding along in the Baby Bjorn.

Dylan was incredibly patient! Here he is showing his enthusiasm for eating!!

We fed him before the event began and, after checking out the scene for a little while, he eventually went to sleep and only woke up at around the 5-mile mark.

While Tom went to get the car, I fed him, changed his diaper in a nearby park (where two cute little girls -- a 4-year old and her 2-year old sister -- fawned over him for a while), and fed him (again!) at Gayle's Bakery, where we eventually met Tom.

Afterwards, we headed for El Palomar in downtown Santa Cruz where we enjoyed a burrito and cold drinks while Dylan (gratefully!) continued to sleep.

capturing Dylan's smile

nice smile for mommy! 07/20/06
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

So far, we've been doing well with our morning semi-routine. For a few weeks now, we've been getting out of bed around 8-ish AM. We open the blinds and let the sunshine in and then Dylan will tolerate anywhere from 10-20 minutes of playmat time. After that, I often put him on my lap and we sing, stretch and do a little exercise.

During yesterday's lap-time session, I held up my camera phone hoping to capture one of his smiles (I wasn't disappointed!) and, finally, after a few minutes of really staring at it intently, Dylan flashed me a smile!

"Helll-lo, Dylan! We're glad that you are here..."

07/19/2006
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Yesterday, Dylan and I attempted to participate in Storytime at the public library (along with Heather and Taliana). We sang a few songs -- including the Name Song, where the group sang everyone's names, as well as a number of lap-bouncy tunes -- and listened to a few stories read aloud by the teacher.

He was the youngest tike there. The next youngest baby was a 2 1/2 month old girl who just looked tiny relative to Dylan. Next to her, Dylan's arms and legs looked absolutely chunky and his head looked gigantic! He also looked like he was about twice her length! We're not sure how much Dylan actually weighs these days, but it's clear that he has grown quite a bit.

We'll find out what his stats are at his next doctor's appointment next week....

Bonfante - 07/10/06

Bonfante - 07/10/06
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Dylan and I accompanied Heather and Taliana and Jason, Tyler and Cindy to Bonfante Gardens this past Monday. My oh my was it hot!

This picture here is of Dylan getting his diaper changed over in the water park area....He was such a good little boy even with the heat! He pretty much nursed while we all ate lunch and then he slept up until I woke him up to change his diaper and nurse him again before we left. On the way home, he managed to fall fast asleep (as did Taliana!).

Dylan's new hat...

The weather has been great for taking Dylan out and about! The problem we've had, though, is with sun protection, so we finally went out and got him a hat. Here he is showing it off....

6 weeks old

Dylan's 6-week mark coincided with his first long road trip -- a weekend at Lake Tahoe.

It took us about 7 hours to get there given the holiday traffic and the nursing stops, but Dylan was a true trooper (here's a shot of him in the car seat he spent so much time sitting in)!

In Tahoe, we stopped by Meek's Bay on one day and took a 5-ish mile hike in Sugar Pine Point State Park the next.

He really seemed to enjoy all of the outdoor sounds and the shadows of all of the trees, etc.! The boy really seems to like being outside, in general...when we're at home, he'll often start fussing when I bring him back indoors!
