rolling, rolling, rolling...

...from back to tummy. It was pretty cool to watch him, too. You could tell that he was really interested in rolling -- every day for the past few mornings, he'd go all the way onto his side and would then try pulling on his kickboard to help him over!

Anyway, he finally did it on his own.

At first, he didn't know what to do with his arm; he just lay there with it pinned beneath him. But after a few minutes, he was able to work it out into a position in front of him.

He also loves the new skwish toy from Gramma Sharon and Auntie Julie! It was a big motivator in getting him to roll over!

Now that Dylan is rolling in both directions, we're on the lookout for signs of interest in sitting and crawling.

mothersong

It just so happened that Dylan slept for 7 hours straight yesterday, but, geeze, it was from 3PM-10PM. We decided to let him sleep because he hadn't been sleeping well at all -- after all, he's teething and he just got his second set of shots (perhaps the long sleeping stint is a fluke related to the vaccinations!!). Besides that, we were at dinner at a friend's house and it seemed convenient to let him snooze!!! Of course, after we got home, he was wide awake and ready to party!

Luckily, a session on the playmat was enough to tucker him out for a while. Unfortunately for Tom and me, he was wide awake again by 6am, so we all got out of bed to start our day.

After he had a short nap and some breakfast, we decided to check out Mothersong -- a singing circle of mommies and babies.

Dylan loved it! He didn't fuss at all until about 50 minutes into the program (his diaper was soaking wet).

Now that we're back home, he's sacked out for what's hopefully a good long nap!!!

So, all in all, it seems like a good activity for him -- he likes it and it tuckers him out enough to put him to sleep.

today's visit with the doc

We went for Dylan's second round of vaccinations and his 4-month check-up today.

He's 13 lbs. 12 oz (25th percentile) and he's either 25.5 or 27.5 inches long (I can't remember, but he's in the 75th percentile!) and apparently doing very well!

The doc confirmed that he's indeed in the pre-teething stage, but she predicts that he won't actually cut a tooth for at least another month. In the meantime, poor Dylan is just drooling and fussing away!!!

Anyway, This past week's new highlight is his recently discovered feet...and playing peek-a-boo (which is actually a new thing from a couple of weeks ago! I finally got it on video, though).

Tom at the Disneyland Half

Here is a clip of Tom at the start line and then again at mile 4...

The video coverage ain't that great, but oh, well! Hopefully, you can tell which back is his! He's wearing the khaki green t-shirt and blue shorts. At the start of the clip, he turns around to wave hello to us. In the second part of the clip, I tried to zoom in on his stride as he began his jog up the ramp. He's on left side of the screen...!

I also couldn't get close enough to get a good shot of him crossing the finish line. Unfortunately, it was too crowded and I couldn't get through with the stroller, etc!

Dylan's first trip to Hell-LA

Oh, yes. We made it through a weekend of traffic in LA, despite all of Dylan's protestations!

It took about 7 hours to get over the grapevine, then it took another 2 hours or so to travel about 34 miles to Anaheim.

Every other trip in the area took, on average, nearly an hour, but the meals at Newsroom Cafe and Madeleine Bistro as well as the visits with family were all well worth the travel!

Now we're back in Santa Cruz and re-adjusting to the routine here...This morning, we went to story time at the library and then did errands and had lunch with Heather and Taliana.

Dylan is now crashed out, catching up on sleep (I presume!)....

hey! Why are we up so early???

Here's Dylan in the Baby Bjorn at the start line for the Disneyland Family 5K at approximately 6:50am.

He was alseep for most of the walk, but the parts for which he was awake he seemed to thoroughly enjoy!

The weather and temperature were absolutely ideal at this time of the morning....

By the way, this little Flap Happy Hat of his is getting too small! But, hopefully, it's not because his head has swelled from knowing he's so cute....

A few more pictures from the Disney event are on flickr.

wibbleton to wobbleton

at the Dog Dylan and I are back to going to rhyme time on Tuesday mornings. The old librarian (who is actually young) is gone and they have a new one (who is actually much older) running rhyme time now.

During 1-on-1 reading time, Dylan and I read Daddy Cuddles and the two women next to me were given a Spanish version of Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?". I was impressed that both mothers tried to read the story to their kiddies.

We sang "Wibbleton to Wobbleton" and "The Grand Old Duke of York" at breakneck speed and mumbled through a few other songs to which we didn't know the lyrics.

After rhyme time, we headed to Heather's house and then to the Santa Cruz County Fair where we watched some dogs catch frisbees (one dog was described as a cat-dog as it behaved much like a cheetah), some Alaskan pig racing (the piggies had names like Ham Solo and Mr. Cunningham), and a clown performing magic tricks.

We also saw a 360+ pound pumpkin!

Well, Dylan pretty much snoozed through most of this -- he awoke briefly when a donkey brayed so loudly, he nearly jumped out of his Baby Bjorn, and once again when we were watching the dogs (this is Dylan at the dog event) -- but the rest of us had an ok time (despite the 80+F heat).

We had a pretty busy day (out from 9:45am until after 6pm). So, now, Dylan is out like shout, having good dreams, we hope....

peek-a-boo

Dylan's first day rolling over redux

I finally sat down to figure out how to get video clips from the camcorder to the web...! I put a few clips of the kids -- Jason and Tyler and Jason and Tyler singing Dylan a lullaby -- on youtube, a free video hosting service.

is this guy teething??

Dylan's been drooling a lot and cramming his little fist into his mouth at every opportunity...I was interpreting these as signs of hunger, but then, when I try to nurse him, he doesn't seem terribly interested! Now, I'm beginning to wonder if he's teething....

I have yet to see any obvious signs, but if he is, he's been remarkably good about it. I'm sure that will change once teeth really start to poke out (poor guy!).

14 weeks and 6 days

Thank goodness Dylan is tolerating his little vibrating chair more now!! It gives my arms a little break!!

Right now, he's just chilling out in it yanking on the little Octopus perched on the side.

Anyway, Dylan will be a whopping 15 weeks old in just 11 hours!! He's out of most of his 0-3 mos. clothes and into the next size up! Among other things, this means he gets to wear the onesie that says "If you think I'm cute, you should see my Dad!"

One of the mommies at the mom's group this morning commented on how much she liked it!

Thanks for the threads, Gramma Sharon!!
