a visit from Auntie Cindy and Jason and Tyler

Dylan hardly EVER falls asleep on someone's shoulder like this -- in fact, I can count the number of times he's done so on one hand! Auntie Cindy is definitely skilled at calming little Dylan! It's amazing. During today's visit, she also coaxed some serious laughter from him!!

Jason and Tyler are still totally enamored of their cousin. Once again, Jason requested to get a picture of himself holding Dylan....

last night's fashion faux pas

By chance, Taliana and Dylan have the exact same PJs! So, when Heather, Assaf and Taliana came over for dinner last night, we put the kids together to take a picture! Obviously, Dylan wasn't all that thrilled about having the same evening wear as someone else (oh! the horrors...at least it's not prom night), but Taliana, sweet as she is, didn't seem to mind one iota.

will the "real" Dylan please stand up

08/26/06 - Dylan stands up

He can't really stand up, but he can propel himself into a standing position using just his little legs! This picture makes it look like his legs are still little twigs, but don't be fooled...those thighs are c-h-u-n-k-y!...

King Lear

Well, yesterday, Tom and I made the bold attempt to go to Shakespeare Santa Cruz last night. It was kind of a last minute decision in the end; we'd discussed going, but hadn't made any firm commitments, but since there's only about a week left of the season, we decided to go for it! The only downside to the whole thing was that we had to buy a separate ticket for Dylan (they cited some fire marshal code as justification).

We got ideal aisle seats in the third row, close to the exit (which you can see behind Dylan and me) and Dylan was amazingly good...We saw no need to leave early!

When we first arrived, he took the opportunity to take in all of the sights and sounds -- the redwoods, the leaves, all the people, etc. Then, shortly after the performance began -- around 7:30pm -- he had his second dinner-ish and promptly conked out...and stayed conked out until the show actually ended!!

Well, needless to say, Tom and I were pleased as punch.

This coming weekend, we're going to attempt a matinee showing of As you Like It.

Who knows how Dylan will behave -- the afternoon is still a little up-in-the-air with respect to scheduling -- but we'll give it a shot anyway....

08/18/06 - playing with daddy

08/18/06 - playing with daddy
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

We've been lucky that Tom doesn't have to drive over the hill every single day! But on the days that he does, he's really good about spending a little time with the Boy first. Here, Tom was having Dylan slide down his legs and then "jump" back up to his knees....

You can see that the Boy's legs are definitely plumping up! And, he is definitely growing stronger.

A few days after Dylan rolled over, I started experimenting with propping him into a sitting position and then also pulling him up by his arms from a lying down position to a sitting position...he held his head up with no problems. He's also showing promising signs of being able to roll over from back to tummy -- when he's on his back, he can really swivel his little hips around from side to side!

These days, Dylan is staying awake a lot, a lot longer, too -- we seem to get up around 7-8am and he doesn't nap until after 12pm -- and, just like his dad, he is very, very talkative!

Jason and Dylan at Ty's 3rd bday party

08/12/2006
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

We headed to Cindy's for Tyler's 3rd bday party where Dylan took a picture with Jason (shown here), mom, Auntie Cindy, Alexa (cousin Teena's youngest daughter), Zoe (Teena's older daughter), Auntie Ieanna, Auntie Christina, and Andre.

In fact, Tom and I barely got to hold him! Dylan was just pleased as punch to have all this attention showered on him; people actually believe he doesn't cry much!

Aside from that, I think Tyler (or Kilele -- his Hawaiian name) had a nice bday/luau celebration.

As soon as Christina uploads pics from her camera, I'll add a link to them from here.

day trip!

...Heather called us up first thing in the morning to see if we were interested in a daytime excursion...I suddenly remembered having gone to Happy Hollow with Cindy when Rob was just a toddler, so Heather and Taliana, Dylan and I packed up our things and headed out to check out the park.

True to the Yelp reviews, the park is in need of some maintenance work, but I think the kids still had fun. Taliana rode a few rides while Dylan and I ambled about and checked out the scenery, etc. He loves being outside, so he was just fine with laying down on the bench and watching and listening to what was going on around him...

Dylan rolls over!

08/09/06
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

This morning, for the first time ever, Dylan calmly tolerated tummy time. Usually, he immediately starts fussing once he's put on his belly, so he doesn't stay belly down for very long at all (usually just minutes). But, this morning, he really just held himself up like a champ.

I even had enough time to take a a couple of photos.

Then, when Tom got home from work, I asked him if he wanted to see how well Dylan did on his belly....I set Dylan down on the mat and the next thing we knew, Dylan had rolled himself over!

Thinking this may have been a fluke, we put him on his belly again and he did it again...and then once again!

I can't believe how quickly he's changing and developing...Aside from rolling over, he's now also very entertained -- he laughs and coos -- by the light-up star tied to the top of his playmat, and he's far more tolerant of the swing.

We're hoping that his patience with being in a carseat will be the next big "developmental" milestone....
