a frenzied and feverish weekend

at Music Together
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Alright, where'd we leave off??? It's been a busy, busy weekend, culminating in poor baby Dylan getting a fever. Every cloud has it's lining, they say, and I guess, for Dylan, it's that he can't go to daycare tomorrow.

In any case, the weekend started with a little Music Together. Once again, Dylan was ready for a nap before we stepped out the door, but he just loved the class!

bday gal with Dylan

On Saturday, we celebrated Christina's 25th bday.

We busted out Dylan's swim trunks and sunscreen and set him loose in the yard.

As usual, he had fun playing with his cousins and he met a new friend, James (Christina's friend's little brother)....

Finally, on Sunday, we took mom out for a bday lunch at Sino.

Dylan's good mood finally wore thin...His lack of naps caught up with him and he was feverish at the end of the day, but Cindy and Christina and mom and I still had an enjoyable lunch, and Dylan, as per usual, didn't want to miss a second, so he stayed awake until we said goodbye (at which point, he promptly sacked out)!

Poor little thing is now sleeping and, hopefully, is on the mend as I type....

Kids Day

in Lumiere
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Today was Take Your Kids to Work Day so I got to take Dylan to the office with me and he got a cute little badge!

We spent most of our time in Lumiere -- home of today's Crafts Lab, where we volunteered for an hour or so and where Dylan highlighted the fine construction of trading card tins, pondered my choice in books, and enjoyed a cup of non-coffee as well as Prateek's company.

All good things had to come to an end, though...after a brief nap in the Ergo (while I finished some work tasks!), I had to take him to daycare.

He's definitely not loving daycare, even though the folks there are so wonderful. They hold him a lot and have one gal on what seems like full-time Dylan-bonding duty! It could be teething -- 2 more uppers are coming in -- or a touch of separation anxiety making the adjustment so challenging for us....Still hoping he'll be back to good ASAP.

a ducky day

Dylan had another fun-filled Wednesday with his Auntie Cindy, Jason, Tyler and Lola.

While I was in the office, they went to the park, fed the ducks and played a whole lot!

Knowing that Dylan is having fun with family makes going to work so much more bearable.

running, running, running...

We got up at the crack of dawn to run this year's Santa Cruz Half Marathon!

Not only did Dylan wake up only once (at 4-ish am), it didn't rain (phew!) and we both exceeded our race goals.

I finished 56/309+ in my age group and 146/911+ overall while Tom finished 99/154 in his age group and 346/911+ overall.

We both finished in under 2 hours.

Given that neither of us could train daily (or even 3x weekly with much regularity), we're happy with our results...!

So, where was the wee one while we were panting away? Poor thing was awakened at 5:30am so we could take him over to HAT's house for the AM!

We reunited with him post-race and took the clan (including David and good buddy Steve) out for brunch at Dharma's....

a big bday bash

"Someday, I'll be 1, too..."

It's been another very full day for little Dylan. We went to our weekly Music Together class this morning. Even though, he was ready to nap before we even left the house, he managed to stay awake and even enjoy the singing and dancing!

Directly afterwards, we headed to Ben's bday party. Lots o' fun. Jack brought his drum and Joya sang with us. We saw some old friends and met some new ones....

As soon as we got home, I managed to get Dylan in the Ergo and on my back all by myself! Now, he's snoring away....

a very full half day!

Dylan had an incredibly busy day yesterday! Taliana is back from Israel, so we got to see Auntie Heather and her for Mothersong in the morning. Then, great excitement! Lola and Auntie Cindy came over with Jason and Tyler to hang out with him while I slaved away at the office.

Shortly after lunch (while I was paying the bill, in fact!), Dylan sacked out. He woke up in time for fun and games at the park....

He was so tired, he actually fell asleep for the night at 6:30PM!

Dylan's new catchphrase

Uh oh, he must be hearing this from us a lot??!

Labels: ,

hats off to Dylan

Here's Dylan signing "hat"....

It's so funny that hats catch his attention so much! Whenever we put hats on, he always breaks out into a big grin and then he wants to try them on!

Anyway, I wish he'd start signing "more" (instead of reaching for whatever it is he wants more of!)....

Tom's Jewish. Shouldn't talking with his hands be second nature??

SOS

dots and dashes
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

It was a mighty windy day at Wilder, but we went for a 6-ish mile walk with Heather and David anyway, mostly so Tom could scope out the course for next weekend's half marathon!

It was so windy (hence this funny picture of me and Dylan!!), we were actually pushed along our way!! Hopefully, next weekend won't be as bad....Running is hard enough as it is...!

Anyway, the walk was still nice and, as always, the ocean was beautiful.

thus ends Dylan's first week in daycare

Day 1: I procrastinated taking him in -- I was feeling ambivalent and somewhat sad, but I actually had a good reason for bringing him in late! He had been boycotting naps, but it just so happened that he fell asleep after lunch and slept for a whopping 2 hours and 45 minutes! As soon as he awoke, I changed his diaper and brought him in. I was so flustered with the whole thing, I forgot to say goodbye to him, so I had to come back and peek into the windows to make sure he was ok (he was! He was already happily gnawing on some shape sorter and I think barely noticed I was gone).

The folks at the daycare were also very reassuring. I was told they'd rock/walk him to sleep and the fact that he liked being held just meant to them that he was a "loved" baby! I am so happy this is their philosophy!

The two women there that afternoon also have experience with cloth diapers, and one of them is actually vegan. They also let me know that I could come in and see him at any time.

When I came to pick him up, he didn't see me at first and he was still just happily playing away!

Today, he once again napped beyond 1PM so I took him in late again. But he spent a whole additional hour there over Tuesday's stay and I figure easing him into longer hours there might be better anyway.

When Kathy (the owner) took him, he reached his arms out for me and kind of gave a whine, but he quickly recovered when she distracted him with things in the main infant room.

Today's report is that he loved exploring around the snack/activity table and was very, very active! He ate up all his tofu cubes and was only just at 5pm beginning to get a little fussy.

Again (as it was on Tuesday), as soon as he saw me, he was eager to nurse, so I fed him a snacky before heading home.

Jury's not completely out yet, but it seems like he's doing ok so far. He hasn't been in there a full 4-5 hours, but I'm hopeful that he'll enjoy it.

I get a good vibe from the daycare folks and he does know Hailey already...maybe he'll even pick up some signs (Kathy and Michele are both willing to learn and sign with Hailey)!

a special easter treat

grandmas!
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Grandma Sharon flew up just to keep Julie company on her drive back to LA, so Dylan got an extra treat this past Easter!

The kids hunted for eggs in Cindy's backyard and we all had a lovely brunch.

I can't say that I know what the omnivores ate (aside from bagels, potatoes, and fruit salad), but we had one of Tom's best ever tofu scrambles.

yay!

Dylan didn't do the egg hunt this year, but he got a new truck and, oh my goodness, new outfits from Auntie Christina, lola, and Grandma Sharon and Julie!

giant jacks

a day out
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

It was another beautiful day and Mark, Yu-chien and baby Eleanor were in town, so after a brunch of yummy pancakes and fruit salad, we headed out for the park and a walk along the Yacht Harbor to Seabright Beach.

Dylan loves seeing doggies out and about. They make him smile and giggle!

Oh, I forgot to mention...Dylan can clap his hands (he started being able to do this just last week...little baby Eleanor already can, too)! We also started giving him props for signing "hat...."
